  • Notes
    • From the 1841 Wales Census for Aberdovey, Merionethshire (HO107 Piece 1429 Book 12 Folio 11 Page 14) William, 14, was with his mother Ann, 45, Sailor's Wife, in Aberdovey, Merionethshire, Wales. With him were his grandmother Ann Davies, 85, and his siblings Ann, 14, and John, 6. Everyone was recorded as having been born in Merionethshire.

From A Real Little Seaport, Volume 2

MORRIS, WILLIAM (1831- ) M. Aberdyfi. He may have been Mate of the schooner Frances Poole in 1868, aged '35', under Capt. John Morris (above). If so, William and John were almost certainly brothers. They both transferred from the smack Mountain Maid in 1868. William and John Morris may well have been sons of Richard Maurice/Morris of Aberdyfi by his wife Anne (Davies). If so, William Morris was baptised at Tywyn 17/4/1831. William Morris joined the schooner Napoleon (54 tons) as Mate at Aberdyfi 25/8/1873, aged '43' and he was discharged at Aberdyfi in 1874. His previous vessel was the Catherine from which he had been discharged at Porthmadog 28/6/73. William Morris joined the schooner Jane Owens as Mate (£4 5s.) early in 1878, aged '46', and was discharged at Connah's Quay 21/3/78. He then served on the Seven Brothers before joining the schooner Sarah Davies as Mate (£3 15s. a month), aged 47. He was discharged at Aberdyfi 17/12/1878. His career seems to have reached a plateau of mateship at a relatively early stage when compared with his younger brother's (Capt. John Morris) who was Master of the smack Mountain Maid aged 16 and drowned in the wreck of the schooner Frances Poole in 1869, aged 34.

William James Morris and Catherine Morris were 1st cousins who married had 3 kids John William in 1892 and a set of twins Cyril and Annie Mary born in 1896

John William and Annie Myfanwy Daniel had 2 children Meiriona (Rona) and William Stuart Daniel Morris (Stuart)

Rona was born in 1928 in Aviemore and still resides in Moffat. She married Irving Bilton Shuttleworth born in 1932 and died (I think) in 2012/13. They divorced in the early 2000s I believe.

William Stuart Daniel Morris was my grandfather born in Jarrow, South Shields on 7th May 1934 and died 22nd August 2015. He married Irvings younger sister Ann Irving White Shuttleworth (1934-2012) they lived the last part of their lives in Lockerbie and are buried in Dalton just outside of Lockerbie.

      They had 4 kids

      Rhonwen (b. 1957)
      John William (b. 1958)
      Ifor Rhys (b. 1965)
      Gareth Daniel (b. 1968)
