I have now found the birth registrations for all but David. Can you tell me when and where he was born? Also, the names of your aunts and uncle would be nice to have.

      >>> Sorry for the delay but I've been doing a little investigating. According to the 1911 census, William Christmas Smith and Ann Eliza Simpson had 16 children by 1911, only 8 of whom were still living at the time. I have only managed to find 14 of the children. It's possible that the missing ones were stillborn and therefore not registered. It's also possible their births and deaths were registered in a different district. Researching Smith is not the easiest task!

She was 14 at the time. She and Thomas Henry Smith married on Boxing Day in 1909. He was described as a Fitter, her occupation was not given. Whether or not she was in service to the Montagues I cannot say ... yet! As you can see from this website, there is no record of Annie working for them - if I have the right place.

There is a lot of information about the company on the internet and they did have a base in Canada. Perhaps he was instrumental in setting it up? Who knows. I don't have the expertise to follow that up.
