    • When Francis first enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1887 at 16 he was 5
      2 3/4" tall. He had a scar from a burn on his left arm.
      He had brown hair, brown eyes and a fresh complexion.
      On 26th May 1889 when he was 18 he had grown to 5
      5" and had a tattoo on his right forearm F Harry. This was his future wife
      s name Frances Harry.
      On 26th May 1901 he had grown to 5

      (The Boadicea was a 16 gun screw corvette, launched at Portsmouth in 1875. She was 4140 tons, 5,290 horsepower with a speed of 14.9 knots.
      In Sept. 1890 nine German Traders were murdered in Vitu, a small state about 230 miles north of Zanzibar. On 24th Oct. the Boats of "Boadicea" Captain the Hon. Assheton Curzon Howe and those of two other ships, proceeded to Balita and burnt the Village. On the 26th Oct. a Naval Brigade of 700 seamen and marines were landed under the persoal command of Vice Admiral the Hon. Edmund Femantle. Metting with some brisk resistance enroute the expedition captured the town of Vitu on Oct 27th.Gunner George Alfred Jenning, of the "Boadicea" blowing up the town gates with gun cotton. The town and the Sultan
      s house were burned and the brigade returned to their ships, having lost 12 men wounded and developed several cases of sunstroke. Capt. the Hon. Assheton Curze Howe was made a C.B. for this service. In 1905 the "Boadicea" was broken up.)
