      Dear Phil

I have decided that I'll send you the information I have pulled together so far, because doing this has started me off following leads all over the place and it’s going to take me weeks and months to run them all down. I will be very interested to hear how the information you said you’d found on HEN compares with what there is here. As I note, we have his war diaries but he was one of those men who recorded weather details obsessively, and the minutiae of everyday life (‘wrote Nan, wrote Dad’) rather than the larger picture, so they are deeply fascinating but deeply boring at the same time. If you ever want to know how to disassemble and assemble the 159 parts of a Lewis machine gun, or indeed a Hotchkiss, or information on the care, feeding and deployment of messenger pigeons, Harry Norris’s notes will tell you. I never knew him, he died many years before I met Mike, but I attended his wife Anne Emily Chalk’s funeral.

Please find attached my notes on HEN, his wife, their antecedents and descendants; a photo of HEN in the late 1940s and Mike’s very rough birth brief which delineates his descent. I hope they are of some small interest, even though your connection is very distant. I wonder if I might be put in touch with Nigel Chalk who seems to have discovered much of the Chalk information you have? Thank you for your wonderful site ??" Mike is so pleased to have French great great great great grandparents of whose existence he had no previous idea. I must look into your Williamses ??" a friend of mine (nee Gwynneth Williams) is searching for proof of her father’s existence, he was born in Llanfyllin but does not seem to have been registered and apparently had trouble claiming his state pension because of this.

Cheers, and once again good luck with the house move. Helen
