  • Notes
    • From the 1841 Census (HO107 Piece 1168/4 Folio 7 Page 7) Mary, 12, was with her parents Walter, 35, Inn Keeper, and Elizabeth, 40, at The Wheatsheaf Inn, Curzon Street, Calne, Wiltshire, England. Also present were George West, 8, Thomas Hughes, 11, Honor Alexander, 15, Female Servant, William Williams, 35, Watch Maker, and Sarah Williams, 26.

Birth (IGI: 18 Dec 1828 and christened on 10 Feb 1829 in St Dunsta ns in the West, Fleet Street, Holborn. The list of Middlesex parishes giv es St Dunstans in the West as part in Middlesex and part in the City of Lo ndon.)

Death Mary Ann Rogers to be checked - September 1898 aged 67 possibl y, or September 1910 aged 81 (nearer in date perhaps) cannot find h er on 1901 census

Mary Ann's parents were Walter Flay, a publican on her marriage certificat e, and Elizabeth \endash confirmed on marriage certificate and census.
IGI: There is a marriage on IGI on 6 May 1828 of Walter Flay to Elizabe th Hulse at St Dunstan in the West where Mary Ann was born. There is a Wa lter Flay birth on IGI for 8 June 1801 in Calne, parents William Flay a nd Susanna Burgess. William Flay was born on 3 May 1774 in Calne. Susan na Burgess is recorded as born 1769 in Calne to Daniel Burgess and Bet ty Chivers \endash and also 22 September 1770. The marriage was on 15 August 1 762 in Calne. Betty was born on 1 June 1743 in Calne.

Elizabeth Hulse on IGI was christened on 30th June 1800 at St Martin's Bir mingham \endash links with census information. Her parents were William Hulse a nd Mary Lingard. They were married on 24th December 1797 at Aston Juxt a, Birmingham. William Hulse not on IGI Feb 07.

There are two christenings possible -Mary Lingard was christened 26th Mar ch 1772, parents Edward Lingard and Elizabeth. However there is another c hristening on 28th December 1778 at St Martin, Birmingham of Mary Lingar d, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth, so presumably it is the 1778 Mary th at we are interested in.

Speculation \endash there is marriage on IGI for 5 Jan 1771 of an Edward Linga rd to Elizabeth Laugher at All Saints, Worcester. [2]
