AFNs are used as a genealogical indexing tool by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lds.org\/portal\/site\/LDSOrg\" title=\"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints\">The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints<\/a> (LDS). AFN&#8217;s consist of 4 capital letters or numbers, a dash, and then 2 or 3 more capital letters or numbers. An AFN does not contain any vowels (A, E, I, O, U, or Y). An example is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/Eng\/Search\/customsearchresults.asp?LDS=0&#038;file_number=1512-QPV\" title=\"Henry Banyer Daniels\">1512-QPV<\/a>. AFNs can be searched online at the LDS&#8217;s website, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/Eng\/Search\/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=af\/search_AF.asp&#038;clear_form=true\" title=\"FamilySearch\">FamilySearch<\/a>. Although contributions to Ancestral File were closed about 2001, it remains a highly valuable aid for finding ancestors and fellow researchers.\\r\\n\\r\\nA number of individuals in the <a href=\"http:\/\/w-f-t.co.uk\/index.php\" title=\"Williams Family Tree\">Williams Family Tree<\/a> have AFN numbers and so I have added a direct link to the relevant page of the FamilySearch web site from the <a href=\"http:\/\/w-f-t.co.uk\/index.php?page=ind&#038;pid=I3581&#038;ged=legacy.ged\" title=\"Henry Banyer Daniels\">Individual<\/a> page. To access the link expand the <strong>Personal details<\/strong> tab by clicking on the <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/w-f-t.co.uk\/pgv4\/themes\/xenea\/images\/plus.gif\" title=\"Plus\" alt=\"Plus\" border=\"0\" height=\"11\" width=\"11\" \/> icon. If the individual has an Ancestral File Number it will be found towards the bottom of the expanded list.<\/p>\n<p>I will be adding more AFN numbers as I come across them.
