Photos | ![]() | Military Wedding Newspaper cutting. Military Wedding at Stapenhill. A pretty wedding took place at the United Methodist Church, Stapenhill, the contracting parties being Driver Horace Edward Barker, R.F.A. home on leaves from Salonica, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Barker, of St. Paul's Street, and Miss Elsie Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Smith, of Saxon Street, Stapenhill. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white silk crepe de chine, hand-embroidered, with pearl trimmings, and a wreath of orange blossom and white heather and a tulle veil. She also wore a gold bracelet, and carried a bouquet of white roses and chrysanthemums, the gifts of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids were Miss Ethel Smith (cousin) and Miss Nancy Toon (friend), who wore dresses of primrose and shell pink crepe de chine, with leghorn hats to match. They also carried bouquets of pink carnations and white chrysanthemums, the gifts of the bridegroom. The Rev. W. H. Saturley officiated. The duties of best man were carried out by Private F. Deakin, of the Dorsets. The happy couple were the recipients of many handsome presents. This confirms that the wedding pictures in the first album are that of Horace Edward Barker and Elsie Smith. His parents were George and Ellen Barker. Her parents were Henry Edward and Florence Smith. |
