It is recorded on his birth certificate that Charles Edwin Berry McKay was on born on August 25th, 1909 at 1.05 a.m. at 48 MacLellan Street, Kinning Park, City of Glasgow. His parents being James Bruce MacKay and Maria Deschlein Berry. His
father's profession is listed as a Railway Porter.
His parents were married on December 23rd 1904 in Kinning Park, Glasgow.
The family had moved to 22 Rutland Crescent, Glasgow by April 27th, 1911 when his younger brother, George McKay was born. Their father died on September 1st, 1911and their mother remarried on June 27th, 1913; 22 Rutland Crescent remaining the
family address until they moved to 109 Plantation Street, Plantation, Glasgow; sometime before 1918.
Their mother died on January 11th, 1935 at 109 Plantation Street, Glasgow; the name of the informant on her death certificate being that of her son, Charles Edwin Berry McKay.
It is recorded on his marriage certificate to Agnes Watt Noble that the ceremony took place on June 4th, 1937 at 1 Maxwell Drive, Pollokshields, Glasgow; After Banns According to the Forms of the Church of Scotland. Charles Edwin Berry McKay is
listed as a bachelor, a Floor Mill Worker by profession, 27 years of age, of 10 Harvie Street, Glasgow. His parents are recorded as James Bruce MacKay, a Railway Shunter by profession; and Maria Deschlein Berry, whose married name is now
recorded as McAlpine; both deceased. Agnes Watt Noble is listed
as a spinster, a Floor Mill Worker by profession, 19 years of
age, of 121 Plantation Street, Plantation, Glasgow. Her parents are recorded as David Hardie Noble, a Clyde Trust Labourer by profession (deceased), and Elizabeth Skinner Kilpatrick. The certificate is signed by both partners, and by Andrew M.
McKirdie, Minister of Union, Glasgow. The witnesses to the marriage are listed as John Martin McAlpine of 109 Plantation Street, Glasgow and Agnes McIntosh of 121 Plantation Street, Glasgow.
The birth certificate of their first born, Agnes Watt Noble McKay on March 6th, 1938 gives the family address as 49 Blackburn Street, Plantation, Glasgow.
The birth certificate of their second child, Elizabeth Kilpatrick McKay on February 14th, 1942 at 10 Harvie Street, Glasgow, now records the family address as 33 Blackburn Street, Plantation, Glasgow. Their father's usual profession as a Floor
Mill Worker is recorder, but he is also listed as a Gunner in the Royal Artillery.
