People who should be alive for the 1939 Register
- [S9246] Banks, Peter, Peter Banks, 5 Dec 2014>, "Banks Family," (Reliability: 3).
Hi Phil,
You may like to add the following (with the usual respect to the 'still
alive')..........
My Grandfather was Charles James Banks (1887-1970 Portsmouth) he married
Edith Blanche Riggs (1882-1971 Portsmouth). They produced four sons -
Charles George (20 Jan 1919 - 30 May 1987 Portsmouth), Albert William Victor
(3 Sept 1920 - Died Portsmouth ), my dad Percy Leonard (7 Feb 1922 Portland
to 5 Dec 1992 Portsmouth), Fredderick Carbon (8 Nov 1924 - still alive
Melksham).
My pop married Brenda Winifred Wood (21 Sept 1927 Great Wakering Essex to 10
November 2014 Fareham). They had three sons (Me) Peter Michael (20 May 1948
Portsmouth - ? Living Leeds ), Malcolm Leslie (10 Jan 1951 Portsmouth
living Brisbane> to ?) and Colin Raymond (7 Aug 1954 Portsmouth - ?
Gosport).
As you can see my Mum has only recently expired which is why I am having a
look at family history. At my Mums funeral we had a 'family friend' attend
who's name seemed familiar to me. With a bit of research it turns out that
his Grand parents were Alfred and Elizabeth Wrixton. The Elizabeth being
Elizabeth Banks (1858 - 1948 Burton Bradstock). i.e George Banks (who
married Mary Steele) his sister. Therefore the 'family friend' is distantly
related and interesting to note that like the 'Banks's the 'Wrixtons' also
migrated from Burton Bradstock to Portsmouth and again for Royal Navy work.
The whole exercise has thrown up some interesting detail. I always thought
that our roots were in Burton Bradstock. It would now appear that my
ancestors George Banks/Ann Thorpe moved from Newhaven Sussex (probably with
his job with the Coast Guard) sometime around 1830. When I track back and
look at the 'Banks' name in Sussex there seems to be 100's of them!! I'm now
wondering if I'm related in any way to Joseph Banks and Petworth House.
Could be moving in soon!!
The one name that I've drawn a blank on and where you may be able to help is
Mary Anne Banks (B 1825 Sussex) first daughter of George & Ann (Thorpe)
Banks. I can't find whether Mary Anne expired early like the next two
children Elizabeth aged 17 (1827-1843) and James aged 15 (1829-1843) who
both died in the Coast Guards Cottage Burton Bradstock with Typhus Fever.
(Basically Salmonella Poisoning) or whether she stayed in Sussex and married
etc.
Regards
Pete
