I believe that I knew one of his sons well - Keri Harris Hughes a bank
manager who married an Alwen Pritchard daughter of Rev John Pritchard of Llanberis and had 2 daughters Ruth and Mair Ruth lives in Toronto and Mair in the USA - possibly Philadelphia

HUGHES, HOWEL HARRIS (1873-1956), minister (Presb.), principal of the Theological College, Aberystwyth; b. 7 Sept. 1873, in Brynteg, Llanfair
Mathafarn Eithaf, Anglesey, son of J. Richard Hughes, a Presb. minister, and Jane his wife. He was educated at Beaumaris grammar school, the University College, Bangor (where he graduated B.A.), and the Theological College, Bala (where he graduated in theology-one of the first two to receive a B.D. degree of the University of Wales). He was ord. in 1901, and ministered in Penmachno (1901-03), Maenofferen, Blaenau Ffestinog (1903-07), Moriah, Caernarfon (1907-09), and Princes Rd., Liverpool (1909-27). In 1927 he was appointed principal of the Theological College, Aberystwyth, and remained there till 1939. After retiring he moved near Liverpool, taking charge of the Welsh church at Southport, 1939-50. In 1912 he m. Margaret Ellen, daughter of Griffith Roberts ('Gwrtheyrn', DWB, 864), Bala; they had three sons. He suffered from debility in his last years, and d. 23 Nov. 1956.
He was a powerful and influential preacher, who held many a memorable
service during an Assembly or Association meeting. He became a person of
influence in his denomination. He was Moderator of the Association in the
North in 1943, and of the General Assembly during World War II, 1939-41. He was secretary of the committee on doctrine set up by the Presbyterian Church Commission for Re-construction after World War I, and he was one of the four who formulated the Shorter Declaration of Faith and Practice for the Presbyterian Church of Wales. His commentary on the Book of Amos (1924) was considered to be one of the best of the series published by his Connexion.
He was gentle and gracious and was revered by his students and congregations as a saint and prophet.
