Hi Phil,
Thank you again for your most helpful email and your attached document! I am a visual learner so it was very useful.
Yes, my Dad did have a few siblings - unfortunately he passed away Dec last year and I think my journey on seeking out his family tree is a part of my grieving process. Whilst not old (mid 70's when he died) he always loved to reminisce about the family and Leicester. Is your family Leicester based??
Dad had two sisters (Thelma and Pamela both died young), old brother Sydney, younger brothers Kenneth, Neil and Ivan. I have intermittent contact with Ken and his wife Jackie but haven't seen or heard from Neil or Ivan.
I was fortunate that Ken and Jackie gave me an outline of the family and seem to have a little knowledge of whose who in the zoo and some photos. I do vaguely recall Gladys and Tom from my childhood. From my family outline Charles Henry and Mary Louise Tyler are there in the tree and I think his second wife was called Emma. Their son Archie died in1915 WWI in France (8th battalion) and is a Leicestershire Tiger. Not sure if he were their only child - perhaps you can tell me the best way to find this out??
I am pleased that you thought Sarah's maiden name is Stafford wife of William as I had thought this but was a little uncertain.
I have subscribed to the free 14 day trip with 'find my past UK' and will probably take up a 12 month subscription! I might sign up to ancestry too. Do you know if you can access other related trees through the website? Not sure who has already done some research.
A good friend of mine has recently shared with me a family heritage book her cousin has written! This also inspired me but he has included a lot of historical information - her ancestors came out here (like everyone else) as convicts and he had details of the ships they came on and quite a infamous convict in the family - if only I could be so lucky!!! Not expecting any surprises!!! However I do recall seeing a Charles Goddard in some census at a reform school (he was young) but can't find it now (didn't save it!)
Another question?! How can I best identify occupations of family members! I believe William and Sarah were born (and died) in Wymondham.
Thank you again for your helpful emails - I hope I don't wear out my welcome?
Unfortunately I'm not on Facebook- have resisted the temptation to date! Have seen how my g/friends have become obsessed and not sure it's for me! Plus hubby would kill me!!
Have a great weekend.
Kind regards
Sue
