I know, It’s been a while since the last message. I can’t help it, I’m a better researcher than I am a blogger! However, here we go…
Again, I am very grateful for all the information being passed to me from various quarters. A bunch of ‘new’ cousins have popped up from a variety of sources and a lot more information has been added to The Williams Family Tree. We even got listed as No. 7 in the Top 50 Family History Blogs! Can’t be bad!

The Williams Family Tree site announces itself as a new, improved iteration of the original, and while it is delightful it’s also flash-intensive, so not all its image enhancements are available on every device. However, it is well worth moving to a browser that can view the Williams Family Tree as designed, because the webmaster put years of experience into the product and obtained a very good result. The site welcomes reader contributions, and the number of additions by members of collateral branches (Hake, Harper, Hoggett, and so on) has turned the collection into a vast library of valuable information on British families.
Recognition at last!!
Now then, Legacy 8 has finally been unleashed and it is looking quite impressive. Unfortunately, it shows up a lot of bad habits I’ve gotten into and my methods are going to have to change if I want to make full use of the new software. One drawback I am noticing as I am writing this is that the creation of GEDCOM file for upload is incredibly SLOW!! Why? I know I have a lot going on inside my computer but version 7 was never this slow. We’ll have to wait and see what the final results are like.
An unexpected success from the Find a Grave website was the headstone for Max Laddy (aka Max Lewinski). I left a request on the site for a picture and Woose came up with the goods. Max was a member of the highly secret 3 Troop 10 Commando and was stationed in Aberdyfi for a while – he met his wife, Margaret Sillars Rees, while he was trainging there. According to Peter Master, in the book Striking Back – A Jewish Commando’s War Against The Nazi’s, “Max was a tall, blondish, square-shouldered, upright man with a lined, weathered face and a straggly mustache. He was a bit older than many of us and was always good-humoured and cheerful.”
I would like to thank Gaynor Sandercock and Pat Davey for their help, photographs and information concerning their respective families. Together with the OPC Database for Cornwall I have managed to update the Sandercock and Ward families extensively. There is still a lot more to do, of course, but we are now a lot further along the log than before. Pat’s Patient ancestors are proving a little more difficult although we have gone back one more generation.
Nigel Chalk sent me a lot of information on his, and cousin Dilys’s, family. I have updated the database with his information and made a few corrections here and there. I still have a lot of census data to add though. As I do for the Farley family – thanks to Susie Pearce for her updates to that branch.
Lots of other information has also come my way and, as ever, I am most grateful for all the contributions no matter how small. Please keep it coming …
