AFN Links

An Ancestral File Number is a unique identifier for everyone who has a record in the Ancestral File format. AFNs are used as a genealogical indexing tool by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). AFN’s consist of 4 capital letters or numbers, a dash, and then 2 or 3 more capital letters or numbers. An AFN does not contain any vowels (A, E, I, O, U, or Y). An example is 1512-QPV. AFNs can be searched online at the LDS’s website, FamilySearch. Although contributions to Ancestral File were closed about 2001, it remains a highly valuable aid for finding ancestors and fellow researchers.\r\n\r\nA number of individuals in the Williams Family Tree have AFN numbers and so I have added a direct link to the relevant page of the FamilySearch web site from the Individual page. To access the link expand the Personal details tab by clicking on the Plus icon. If the individual has an Ancestral File Number it will be found towards the bottom of the expanded list.

I will be adding more AFN numbers as I come across them. If you find any person in the Williams Family Tree who should have an AFN but doesn’t, please let me know so that I can update the records accordingly.

I hope that the AFN links will be beneficial to you – enjoy!
