Good Morning.

For a long time there has been rumour in our family that there was an Earl in my family a long way back. Apparently, the Earl in our family was in the admiralty.

We were always led to believe that the geneology for the Earl was on my Grzndfather's side (Maund), but only recently has it been suggested that it comes from my Grandfather's Mother's side.

Her name was Mary Ann Jervis.

I was wondering if you have any insight into this that might be useful?

Thank you for your time,
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Christopher,

Early indications are that the Jervis family were Potters and Miners. It would appear that Mary Ann Jervis's parents were Frederick and Betsey. Frederick was a Coal Miner. His father was Enoch Jervis, a Potter. Enoch's parents may have been James and Hannah but I don't know James's occupation.

Enoch and his wife, Mary, had about 10 children and Frederick and Betsey had quite a few too. Whether any of the children's partner's ancestors were Earls or Admiralty could take a while to establish. If you could furnish me with any more details it may help.

Kind regards,
Phil.

P.S. It looks like Arthur Maund's mother's family were also Miners.
