Hello my 3x great grandpa John Mansell married Mary Ann Pugh in 1819 in Mynydisslwyn. She appears to have been a minor, she needed the consent of Samuel Pugh and a witness to the wedding was Theophilus Pugh. I can’t find many of them and wondered if he might have been your ancestor. Do you know where he was living at about that time ? Could he have been Samuels brother?
Many thanks Nikki Mansell Day

Hi Nikki,

If Samuel was born/baptised in 1799 in Meole Brace, Shropshire, then yes, he could well be Theo's brother.

Theophilus was baptised in 1801 in Meole Brace. The parents of both Sam and Theo were John and Mary.

As to where they may have been in 1819 is anyone's guess.

There is a baptism for a Mary Pugh recorded in 1797 in Meole Brace with the same set of parents, but that would make her 22 in 1819 and in no need of consent - unless her parents were deceased, perhaps.

If you have anything to add please let me know.

Cheers,
Phil.
